WELCOME TO PYONGYANG: CHARLIE CRANE GOES INSIDE NORTH KOREA
Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11:26PM "How do you photograph one of the most secretive countries in the world? For Charlie Crane the answer was simple, photograph what they want you to see". And that's just what he did, after gaining (supervised) access to photograph North Korea on the government's terms. Showcasing their so-called "tourist attractions", an interesting distinction for a country that is far from being known as a tourist destination, the images are a mixture of carefully staged portraits and empty cityscapes. The end result is a striking glimpse into a country rarely photographed, a glimpse that hints at what lies beneath the surface disguise of perfection.
You can find more of the series HERE or in his first book WELCOME TO PYONGYANG released in 2007.
